Hannibal Henry is used to helping his disabled neighbor. He got her groceries, cleared snow off her car and called for her to order pizza because she had no phone. But then suddenly last week his assistance went beyond doing errands — he heard a smoke alarm about 11 p.m.

He went over and found her — it was definitely being a good neighbor.   -Ed Collins

Eighteen people were forced from a burning apartment building Wednesday morning, but there were no major injuries reported. Fire Chief Dan Forsythe said a 35-year-old woman was taken by relatives to Silver Cross Hospital and later transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood for smoke inhalation, and Manhattan police Officer Tom Friddle apparently pulled his shoulder when a man he was helping from a balcony fell on him. He was treated at Silver Cross Hospital and released.
